1. Functionalities
1.1. Multiple languages supported (English, Spanish and Portuguese)
CARTOMAP CAD user interface suits the user language preferences. All languages supported are included in the installation process.
1.2. Presentation
CARTOMAP CAD shows a toolbar (menus) on the bottom of the main screen when working in portrait mode or on the right side of the screen when working in landscape mode. You can work portrait or landscape, all CARTOMAP CAD screens are prepared to be displayed in both modes.
These menus can easily be expanded at different levels making available a set of tools. When menus are expanded they look semi-transparent to not completely hide drawing elements.
1.3. File menu options
These options allow you to create, open and save drawing files in your device.
From this menu you can access to the file management options and to transfer drawing files to and from a computer. Files can be transferred through iTunes, by email, Wi-Fi, iDisk, Dropbox or any WebDAV compatible cloud storage.
1.4. Edit menu options
This menu provides different commands to add, edit or delete some project data as views, layers and entities.
Using the Views options you can create or modify different views adjusting them to the maximum area, to the current screen view or to a determined coordinates.
The background color of the view can be selected from this menu.
In native CARTOMAP projects you can select the previously defined views to display. Those views can have been previously customized using the CARTOMAP v.6.2 to define the view area, the visible layers and other feature presentation settings (stations, points, contour levels, DTM...).
The Layers option manages the layer name, description and the layer display format: line type, color, width, visibility, locked status... You can also set up the current layer in which the new elements created will be included.
To help you organize drawing objects, the elements contained in a layer can be grouped in entities. One layer can contain different drawing entities.
The Entities options handle the entity name, description and entity display mode. You can also set up the current entity to which the new elements will be assigned.
The Points option controls the point identifier, the point location and other data related to points.
From the edit menu you can access to the Settings options to set up the unit formats for length, angles... coordinate formats), background color by default...
1.5. CAD menu options
A set of more than 130 drawing tools are accessible to consult or modify your project graphically or numerically.
Once you have selected a CAD tool, an information bar appears on the top of the screen providing graphical and numerical information about the tool to be used. The information is shown step by step following the CAD tool process. When necessary, numerical values required by CAD tools can be introduced on this information bar and the CAD tool can be canceled at any time is needed.
Tools nesting is a flexible and effectively mode of working: While you are using a CAD tool, you can execute another CAD tool to then continue with the first tool selected.
1.5.1. Lines
Line drawing options: By 2 points, by distance and azimuth, parallel by point, parallel by distance, chamfer and orthogonal lines.
Line modifying options: Cut, move line, move endpoints and project line to a selected element.
1.5.2. Arcs
Arc drawing options: By center and endpoints, by 3 points, by endpoints and parallel radius.
Arc modifying options: Modify endpoints, center or radius, move and cut.
1.5.3. Circles
Circle drawing options: By center and point, by 3 points, by 2 points and radius and by 2 opposite points.
Circle modifying options: Move, modify circle size and cut.
1.5.4. Polylines
Polyline drawing options: by specifying polyline vertices, make a polyline copy and join lines and arcs to create a polyline.
Polyline modifying options: Move, rotate, move vertex, add vertex, delete vertex and split a polyline in to lines and arcs.
Freehand polylines for to do fast annotations.
1.5.5. Points
Point drawing options: By location.
Point modifying options: Move.
1.5.6. Rectangles
You can draw rectangles and parallelograms.
1.5.7. Texts
With the text tools you can create, edit and modify drawing texts. You can select the size, color and type of the text. Existing texts in the drawing can be modified: edit content, move text, move horizontally or vertically, rotate text, resize text or copy.
1.5.8. Symbols
Using the symbol tools you can create new symbols that can then be inserted in the drawing.
You can insert a symbol in a Point, insert symbols inside a closed surface or insert symbols at layer Points.
You can also modify existing symbols using the tools: move symbol, rotate symbol, resize symbol or explode.
1.5.9. Dimensions
Options to create dimensions: point dimension, between two points, aligned to an item, distance and angle, angular and radial.
Before creating a dimension you can set up the dimension parameters: text and arrow size.
1.5.10. Delete an item
Any selected item on the screen can be deleted.
1.5.11. Information
Element features and geometrical information can be obtained from the drawing elements: Coordinates, Distance and azimuth by 2 points, Distance from point to item, entity features (name, layer, surface...), item features, polyline segment, interior angle between 2 items...
1.5.12. Object selection
Options to set up the current object: current layer, current entity and current point.
Options to assign a layer to objects: entity to current layer, point to current layer, points within a zone to current layer.
1.5.13. Zoom
The usual way to zoom in and out and move the view center is by moving 2 fingers on the touch screen. Although sometimes, for example when you are using a precise pointer instead of a finger, you may prefer to use zoom tools to increase, decrease, change the view center or display the whole view extension for the plan defined.
You can also zoom to an entity or point previously selected from the list of entities and points.
These options are available in the Zoom menu.
1.5.14. Snap To
To specify precise locations on objects you can turn on a Snap To option.
When a Snap To option like Point, Endpoint, Items intersection, point projected over an item, point perpendicular to an item or Curve center is on, and you specify a point on the screen, the eligible points within the searching radius are displayed and listed. You can then select the desired data point to be used in a CAD tool.
1.5.15. Coordinates selection
While you utilizes a CAD tool and you are prompted for a point location, you can select the nearest point coordinates to the one specified on the screen that fulfills the Coordinates Selection option previously selected.
The Coordinates Selection options are absolute coordinates XYZ/NEZ, coordinates adjustment, Point, Item endpoints, Items intersection, Curve Center or Midpoint.
The Coordinates Selection tool prevails over any enabled Snap To option.
1.5.16. Item Selection
When using a CAD tool, you are prompted for an item selection and once you have specified a point on the screen to select the object, if there is more than one item is eligible within the searching radius, then the Item Selection screen appears. This screen allows you to precisely select the item to be used.
1.6. View, Layer and Entity preview
From the upper menu bar you can access to the Views/Layers/Entities lists to preview the one selected or to set up the current View/Layer/Entity.
1.7. Undo-Redo
From the upper toolbar you can access to the undo-redo screen where an historical list of CAD tool actions are displayed and can be backtracked.
1.8. Help and About
From the help option in the toolbar you can access to the help system. Tap on CARTOMAP CAD or the logo to display information about the version number.

Added features:
  • New tool for graphical tracking: if you tap the screen and keep the finger on, the system shows information about the selected element, the layer to which belongs and its properties (length, radio, aperture angle, etc). Around the cursor, a magnifying glass shows a more detailed view of the element.
  • Smart cursor: If a CAD tool requires selection of coordinates, keep the finger on the screen a few seconds to obtain information about the coordinates. If a snap option has been applied to compute the final coordinates, or if they are the coordinates of a keypoint (as item endpoint, intersection, center of curve, etc) then the cursor changes its appearance, according to the element type selected.

The copy can be simple, as a mirror copy, as well as multiple to build a rectangular or polar array. You can also makes copies filling a surface, keeping the sizes and orientation of the elements as well as generate copies with different scale.
  • New CAD tool: Freehand polyline. It allows creating a polyline following the movement of the finger on the screen.
  • The color and line style of an element can be defined individually and independently from the color and line style of the layer to which the element belongs.
